Velachery platform crowded

Click on the Photos for a larger version. Enjoy the slice of velachery, chennai taken at different periods of time. So I keep varying about the subject. So kindly bear with me.

Topic 1:

From Vijaynagar bus stand to Velachery Railway station you will be amused to see the number of shops propping up on a day today basis, after the railway station started to function.
fish market on platform
more shopd pavement shopsfoot path shopsfoot path shops

Where is the platform?
Remembering to story of hoarding in Chennai, which added some distractions and vivid colors, Currently helping us to get some cool breeze. I am wondering what happened to the people who were involved in that business. After many years of livelihood a simple rule just took away their work.

I wish the same shouldn’t happen to the vendors of velachery. Either follow rules so that they are not affected after years.

By the way, I Wonder these shop keepers pay the tax and if they did, does it reach the right authorities of the Government or Chennai Corporation. End of the day, people complain about IT professionals and the salaried people who pay the tax, for all the rise in price etc etc. Have we ever worried about the tax payers.

Topic 2:

People can’t control and take a leak here, near Sutherland technologies pavement. You need to have blocked nose to walk on this area of pavement. There is no public toilet around in this huge stretch.

Parking right under the no parking zone is actually fun.

Topic 3:

autoautoAutoautoauto

Irony is about these Auto Drivers who park the autos on the pavement or sometimes they even ride on the opposite side of the road, they will even give you a jolt by honking  and even give you a bewildered look while they pass by.

Cop driving on the wrong side of the road
And some times you will find the lawman very much following the rules.

Steps showing pointers – Chennai subway

steps showing arrow pointers
Click on the Photo for a larger version

The above image is at a famous hospital in Chennai. All places are well marked for people on how to interact with the space.

It happens that if you use any of the subways in Chennai, especially the one to reach Chennai Central, people move randomly irrespective of a separator with iron tubes which doesn’t seemed to give the right solution.

The marking should communicate to people on which side they should step. On busy days at peak traffic this should be an ideal solution

What say?

Chennai Traffic Police barricade, problem to Motorist

A problem to every motorist

The above photo is the one on the Shathi Colony, AnnaNagar, after a left turn takes you to the main road which leads to Koyambedu Main road.

I have seen this chennai traffic police barricade for months, the on going traffic leads to safety of people who take the left turn, some time bikes skid on the road as the road become a bottle neck.

A kind request to chennai Corporation to fix the above place.

Request for Chennai Corporation

Fish stalls on public roads
Fish stalls on public roads

Click on the Image for a large view – BTW this picture was taken during the afternoon on Sunday, so the place is not that crowded
Place:  Near Annanagar Railway station a bridge with lots of mobile Fish stalls

This road is a connection between Villivakkam and Annanagar, and believe me this road is already narrow and crowded and on top of this new mobile fish stalls just started has created hell a lot of problems for commuters.

Kindly note: I am not against the fishermen nor the traders and nor the public. I would love to have a fish stall  out there close by which doesn’t bother the traffic.

Morning time is the peak and school goers are the major sufferers.  Traffic gets the ultimate beat.

Here is the request with the solution for the Chennai corporation. Can the mobile fish stall be moved little away from the bridge to the end of the bridge there is a vacant place towards Annanagar where very few people use that road as it stinks because of the cooum river.

Does Chennai traffic police have to bear with this

chennai traffic police

Courtesy: The Hindu

I was reading to “The Hindu” this morning, and saw this article. I have been in the same place trying to cross the road to reach central sub urban railways station. The cops have no control over the crowd. Yeah, I did see the subway, as Ms. Selvi stated it was in a pathetic shape.

My question is does chennai traffic police has to hear all this, just because they are doing good.

They are trying to save our lives.

This is what chennai peoples mentality. Even if some one is helping you, you start pointing fingers.

Well if Chennai traffic police had the rules in the first place, they need not have to hear the words, which people state.

I had stated once at chennai.metblogs too.

Just an Update: I took the other subway which is messier and with lot of hawkers. The one close to the park town station is cleaner safer and  hawkers  free.

Wondering when would Chennai traffic police would take the same step of encouraging people to use safe subway at saidapet bus terminus. Wish that could come true.

Chennai MRTS – boon or bane Software professionals

chennai MRTS train

click on the image for a larger version of the photo

chennai MRTS was launched up to velachery last monday 19th of November 2007.

Well I commute to my office by using Chennai MRTS from Villivakkam ->Beach-> Velachery and back home

Things which I want to communicate to the Railway officials.

Most software companies have open office timing and most members come to office by 10.30 AM and leave late in the night back home (say average time of 8:00 PM). The train timings which have been currently offered will not meet the expectation of software professionals, who work in IT park and some more IT offices at velachery.

Connecting trains are a major problem, say Villivakkam has more trains to offer, but to the beach. It is less. Well from beach to velachery is most inconvenient, connecting trains don’t wait if the ones reach little late.

above chennai MRTS train timing from velachery to beach station

Why Chennai MRTS amuses me?

  1. Savings
  2. Cost factor
  3. Organized
  4. Traffic
  5. Pollution
  6. Health

Savings – I usually commute by car or motor cycle. On an average I do 45KMS a day home->office->home. If I choose Chennai MRTS from villivakkam to beach and beach to velachery is 9RS (INR) and from velachery to beach and beach to villivakkam it is 8RS(INR) so a total of 17 INR when compared to 1& 1/2 litre of petrol on my bike and whooping 4 litres of petrol for my car say around 200 INR/day. 4000 INR for 20 days

Cost factor – If I buy a season ticket for 3 months it is only 375 INR which is close to 2 days the price of petrol for my car.

Organized – well I don’t want to be late to my office. I have to plan my day. I wake up little early than usually. My company vice president prefers to travel by bus or train or even a cycle (well he could afford to buy the expensive car and have chauffeur at his disposal, well something I am missing) . If he could manage time. I should learn, how to manage my time.

Traffic – Rain or too hot, no more worries staying in the signal. Don’t have to worry any more for the scratch on your new car. Nor have to bite the nails and carry tension. Nor get stranded for long time on signals.

Pollution – What? Unless the train passes over the coovum river or near the Petro chemical refineries
Health conscious – Because I plan my day, I drop my son to school early. Now I do little bit walking, how?

If I have walk to villivakkam station from home and from velachery station to office and back that is about 20 minutes of walking a day. Well a good exercise which I was missing all these days.

Apart from that I have started listing to some podcast or my favorite radio while traveling using my Nokia N70 mobile.

The only worry is that, will I not get more options from the Railways.

Final words: I believe chennai MRTS needs to do some kind of marketing to attract the software professionals, most probably they need to increase the number of trains plying during after peak hours and provide adequate support/connecting train timings at all the main stations (returning to home is a big problem now). Once done, they could possibly see the increase in the traffic in that route.

Do let me know your thoughts and comments, Will MRTS will be of help.

Here is a southern railways  site which has the suburban train timing. It has information about the connecting trains time table

I am sorry, How else can I take this home

auto_s_01.jpgauto_s_02.jpg
Click on the image for a larger version (this photo is taken well inside the chennai city – Villivakkam)

This is a very common site, with Autoricksaw and trucks carrying long protruding objects in their vehicle. The above two images are an Auto carrying a long iron pole and where it came in contact with the Cable TV wire and finally winded on the pole. Leaving the TV channel viewers at pain.

I questioned my self, Why do they do it, when it might harm themselves and others.

Once I had to carry a tube light from a electrical shop to my home which is a KM away. All I had was my yamaha 135 bike, the shopkeeper took a role and tied one end of tube light to the rear end of my bike while the front portion was in between my right arm and my body. I thought for seconds, Am I doing this right. Then realized, India doesn’t have rules to stop you from carrying a tube light while riding and if at you are caught, you could still get away.

Well, honestly how many of you would have hired a larger vehicle to carry this tube light. Please do comment. Do say whether I did was right or wrong

One more Photo which I took long back , this one is near the Sruthi musicals Signal.
