This time it was slightly technical data for the bloggers to handle, and I did learn few things about mobile network, thanks to Mr. Sunil Kuttam, Head – Data & Devices, Aircel
It all started with rain in Chennai, and bloggers trying to catch up with the event, after few minutes delay the event started with Mr.Sunil Kuttam showing us slides on the current mobile network.
Here are few get away from my side or rather I was interested to note
Compared to rest of world when the Indian mobile internet market is booming, we have the lowest spectrum available in India, because the government cannot release the spectrum until our Indian Military releases it, currently Military has the widest spectrum for its use.
Why because our majority of military communication systems use the spectrum, they are in the upgrading the communication systems, so as and when, they are upgraded they release the spectrum for public use.
That is like 2.7% of our income we pay to have ourselves connected while we are on the move, This has do with adoption meaning the most us buy 4G or even the Volte enabled smart phones, but don’t use the data. Did you know 2G is still widely used in India. Shocking isn’t it.

I had this stupid nerdy question “Why aren’t Mobile internet data cheaper than cable networks?” Thanks to Mr.Sunil Kuttam, he had lot of patience to explain me that cables can carry large bandwidth and with respect to Mobile data over the air, if there are more users the bandwidth reduces to each user.
One more important thing I learnt about the spectrum is that spectrum 700 covers more area than spectrum 1200. It is like a zoom lens the more the zoom the view shrinks. So that is reason for spectrum bandwidth auction.
